Repairs & make-safe
Doors dropping, dragging, not latching or not closing. Failed units, broken glass and worn hardware. Most faults are a part and an adjustment, not a replacement door.
Commercial aluminium doors take a beating. A busy entrance can cycle several hundred times a day, and the hardware wears long before the frame does. The faults we see most often are these.
A door that slams, drifts or stops short is almost always the closer. Overhead closers and concealed transom closers can often be adjusted rather than replaced, but once the hydraulics have gone the unit needs changing. Floor springs are a bigger job because the leaf has to come off and the cover plate lifted, but they are still repairable in situ.
If a door catches on the threshold or the lock no longer lines up, the hinges or pivots have worn. On a patch-fitted door that usually means the top patch and pivot. On a framed door it is the butt hinges. Either way the fix is hardware, not a new door.
Euro cylinders, hook locks, multipoint gear, panic bars and exit devices. Panic hardware on a fire exit is a legal requirement, so a faulty one needs doing quickly rather than waiting for a planned visit.
Misted or blown units are a seal failure. The glass is replaced, the frame stays. Toughened and laminated units are made to order from the measured sizes, so there is usually a lead time of a few days.
Draughts, whistling and water ingress are usually perished gaskets or blocked drainage slots rather than a failed frame. Both are cheap to put right and are the most commonly missed cause of a leaking window.
If a shopfront or entrance has been damaged, the first job is making the opening safe and secure. That means boarding up, removing broken glass and securing what is left so the building can be locked. Glass and permanent repairs follow once the replacement unit is in.
A minimum charge covers attendance and the first hour on site, with an hourly rate after that, plus parts. Where we can, we diagnose from a photograph before travelling, which means the right part is on the van when we arrive and the job is done in one visit instead of two.
If a closer and a set of gaskets will fix it, that is what you will be quoted. We would rather repair the door you have than sell you one you do not need.
Send a photograph and a rough size and you'll usually get a figure the same day.
